While natural wine has recently turned trendy, it is not new. Humans have been crafting fermented grape juice without additives for thousands of years. Not a new thing or a fad, natural wine making is simply the traditional way to make wine typically from sustainable, organic or biodynamic grapes grown by small-scale, independent growers.
Natural wine is more of a concept than a well-defined category with agreed-upon characteristics. In its purest form, it is wine made from unadulterated fermented grape juice...period. No pesticides or herbicides. No added yeast and little to no sulfites. Sometimes termed "low-intervention" or "naked" or "raw" natural wine is the term most widely used for wine crafted using simple or tradtional methods.
People who champion natural wine say they have found these wines to be totally different, alive and delicious.
